Project.DB Inspector for DaVinci Resolve
Lost in DaVinci Resolve’s backup folder, full of folders with random codes and files called Project.db? Find out which project each backup belongs to, in seconds.
Choose your backups
Pick one or more Project.db files, or your whole Resolve Project Backups folder to see every project at once. You can also drag them here.
Your files never leave your computer. Everything is read right here, in your browser.
| Project name | Backup date | Folder code | Timelines |

How to use it
- Open your backup folder. By default it’s called Resolve Project Backups, inside your Movies (macOS) or Videos (Windows and Linux) folder. You can check its location in DaVinci Resolve under Preferences → User → Project Save and Load.
- Choose the whole folder, or the Project.db files inside the coded folders.
- For each project you get its name, its timelines, the date of the backup and the coded folder it’s in. When you choose a folder, the newest backup of each project is shown.
daf85f98-9745-…Project.db.20250211154431Timeline backup files (Timeline.…) aren’t supported. Only Project.db files contain the project name.
Why the folders have codes
Every project in a DaVinci Resolve database gets a unique ID, and its backups are stored in a folder named with that ID. That’s why the Resolve Project Backups folder is full of names like 2efaa3e2-f56d-417f-8128-bf709f522ed4, and why you can’t tell which project is which just by looking.
To restore a backup, the safest way is still from inside DaVinci Resolve: in the Project Manager, right-click the project and choose Project Backups. This tool helps when that isn’t possible, for example after the project was deleted or when backups were moved to another computer. I explain the whole backup system in Resolve Backups: A Detailed Explanation.
Never search through coded folders again
Resolve Vault saves your open project as a real .drp file every few minutes, named after the project with the date and time, like Project 01_20260926_17h14m31s.drp. It keeps every backup until you decide to delete it, backs up whole Local Disk and PostgreSQL databases, and can send everything to Google Drive or Dropbox automatically.
